Internet Stations Acceptable Use

Patrons are allotted 240 minutes of computer use each day. All PCs are Windows 10 with Office 2010, utilizing various browsers.  Patrons may print in black & white or color. B&W is $.10 per page. Color is $.50 per page. The library has a pubic Wi-Fi network.

The Rossford Public Library provides Internet access to resources that inform, entertain and educate its patrons.  The Internet is an unregulated medium with ever changing and unpredictable content.  Users are hereby notified that they are responsible for the sites they reach.  As with other materials, restriction of a child’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.  The library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from use of the Internet or from its connection to other Internet services.

You must have a Woodlink library card from Rossford or another Wood County library to use the Internet stations.  The exception would be those accommodations made for an out of town guest.  In those limited instances, a guest pass will be issued for the duration of their visit on that day.  Guest passes will not be issued to residents with a Woodlink card.

Users may not represent themselves as other users.  Users may not share their number with another person or attempt to use another person’s number.

Each computer station is to be occupied by one person at a time, unless a second person is acting as an authorized assistant. Users should possess a reasonable understanding of basic computer functions. Library staff cannot be expected to type or perform computer services for patrons at the Internet stations.

Users may not add, delete, copy or modify settings, files or data belonging to the library or other users.

Standard conventions for etiquette on the Internet and at Internet stations are to be observed.  The display of profanity and/or sexually explicit graphics is prohibited.  Computers shall not be used to conduct illegal activities.

Disruptive behavior, loud talking and high volumes on headphones are not permitted.  Headphones shall not emit noise that can be heard by others nearby. Proper library behavior is required at all times. (Please refer to the Rossford Public Library Standards of Library Behavior policy.)

It is not the responsibility of the library staff to monitor children’s use of the Internet.  Social networking sites, as well as other sites are available to any person logging on to the internet.  The library has an opt-out form for any parent or legal guardian who wishes to deny the use of the Internet by a minor for whom they are responsible.  When the opt-out box is checked, the child’s card will be restricted from the log on system.  Without this notation, a child with a Woodlink library card will have access to the Internet. The Rossford Public Library complies with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), which mandates that access to the Internet be filtered for those under the age of 17.  The library recommends that parents/guardians be familiar with the Internet - social networking and the accessibility of online information prior to their child using library Internet computers.

Users are allotted four hours per day of computer access .  Computer stations are preset with a one- hour time limit.  If no one has reserved the station, time may be extended in 30 minute increments.  An onscreen prompt will provide this action. Time will not be extended beyond the daily four hour limit.

The library is not responsible for damage to patron’s disk or computer, for any loss of data, or damage or liability that may occur from a patron’s use of the library’s computers.

Patrons may not utilize the library’s computers in violation of any local, state, or federal ordinances, regulations or laws, including copyright laws.  Users engaged in illegal activities involving library computers may be subject to prosecution by local, state or federal authorities.  The library reserves the right to terminate a computer session and/or suspend library privileges of anyone who violates the library’s computer use policies.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in loss of access.  The Board of Trustees of the Rossford Public Library delegates to the Director and other administrators of the library the authority to enforce this policy, including the authority to revoke the Internet privileges of patrons who violate this policy.

The Board of Trustees of the Rossford Public Library reserves the right to revise this policy as deemed appropriate without prior notice.
